Wire and cable basics

WIRE CABLE: A wire or cable usually made of several or groups of wires [at least two per group] twisted together to resemble a rope. Each group of wires is insulated from each other and often twisted around a center, with a highly insulating covering over the whole. It is mostly used for transmitting and distributing electrical energy or transmitting electrical signals.
Wire and cable mainly consists of the following 4 parts.
1. Conductive core: made of high conductivity materials (copper or aluminum). According to the laying conditions of use on the cable flexibility requirements, each core may be a single wire or multiple wires stranded and become.
2. Insulation: used as the cable insulation material should have a high insulation resistance. Commonly used insulating materials in the cable are oil-impregnated paper, PVC, polyethylene, cross-linked polyethylene, rubber and so on.
3. Sealed sheath: to protect the insulation core from mechanical, moisture, humidity, chemicals, light and other damage. For moisture-prone insulation, generally using lead or aluminum extrusion sealing sheath.
4. Protective cover: used to protect the sealing sheath from mechanical damage. General use of galvanized steel tape, steel wire or copper tape, copper wire, etc. as armor wrapped around the outside of the sheath (called armored cable), the armor layer at the same time to play the role of electric field shielding and prevention of external electromagnetic interference. In order to avoid the steel belt, steel wire corrosion by the surrounding medium, generally outside them coated with asphalt or wrapped around impregnated jute layer or extruded polyethylene, PVC sets.
